Geek Chic Giveaway on The Broke Ass Bride!

Happy Holidays everyone! I am so excited to announce that my gift to you is a Geek Chic giveaway over on The Broke Ass Bride! BAB is after my own heart, since by creating printable designs I want to help out the brokest of brides. Plus, I just love their mission statement:
"The Broke-Ass Bride inspires and empowers you savvy, unique readers to make the most of what you have by using creative, outside-the-box ideas rooted in practical advice, to save your money and your sanity. From weddings to lifestyle and everything in between… we’re sharing the love and the know-how, kicking ass in every direction!

We’re all about bold and original approaches to weddings and budgets. Your wedding is a reflection of you and your partner; it should say something about what makes your love unique. And it is just one moment of your life, which should equally be a celebration of your spirit! I see so many people bury their heads in the sand and compromise their dreams… whether because its “easier” or “less expensive” or “its traditional” or “expected”. Ninja please! It’s YOUR day; you should do it YOUR way. And you can, yo!"

Let's check out all the loot, shall we? It's all part of my vintage garden collection, and worth $75!!! As you know, since my prices are low to begin with, this is a lot of goodies.

One Custom Fortune Teller/Cootie Catcher Template
One Custom Vintage Garden Program (our best seller!)
One Custom Thank You Card (our second best seller!)
One Custom Banner (can be any phrase you like)

AND THAT'S NOT ALL!

I'm also offering a 15% discount for all BAB readers. To find the code, you'll have to visit the site, which you can do right here! While you are there, you might as well enter this fantastic giveaway. But do it soon, it ends on Christmas, 12/25/12!

Good luck everyone, and thank you Broke Ass Bride for being such an awesome partner for this giveaway!

Un-Sponsored Love Fest: Lover.ly

So now that they have featured my wedding on their Facebook page 3 times, I figured it's time for me to gush about Lover.ly.

I get a lot of "wedding spam" even though I'm no longer a newlywed, and even more so now that I'm in the biz, so to speak. I remember getting an email about Lover.ly and thinking hmm that seems cool but basically ignored it like I do most things. Then I signed up to see what it was all about, and at first thought it was a great idea but wasn't sure of the point. Well kids now it's just AMAZING. I wasn't into Pinterest during my engagement, despite it existing, but man do I wish Lover.ly had been around. It's basically like Pinterest for weddings, except the content is more exclusive and less spammy (no links to dead Tumblr accounts, for instance). Plus it is all weddings, all the time. Now they have added a way for all vendors to have profiles and get their work seen, which is even better for Etsy peeps like me!

From 6.28.12
It grew so quickly that I knew I had to keep up so I immediately followed all their social networks. Lo and behold, images from my wedding started popping up. The first two were of my insanely delicious pops (care of Cakewalk Desserts).

From 8.17.12
Then today they featured my Printable Vintage Garden Thank You Card!!!!

From 9.27.12
I of course have to give credit to Focus Photography, Inc. for the stunning images worthy of being featured, and to Every Last Detail Blog for featuring our wedding! Sometimes I feel like everyone else is just so much more talented than I am that it's nice to be included once in a while (even if it was just because I picked out all those ideas!)

Like me on Facebook and get a special coupon code, then go get yourself a discount on that cute Thank You card and whatever else you may need (including custom orders)!!

Thanks for the support everyone :) I promise I have new designs in the works but I guess we are still in 'wedding season' because I keep getting orders keeping me busy!

Wedding Cootie Catchers/Fortune Tellers

I've added a new item to my Etsy shop: Cootie Catchers! I had these at my wedding and everyone just LOVED them so I wanted to give other DIY brides an opportunity to get in on this fun idea. You can order them here!

I had a tricky time figuring out how to trim and fold these at first, but found a few great tutorials online that made the work a lot faster. I made my own tutorial for my special Geek Chic customers to hopefully make things even easier on you!

Side Note: Supporting my Mama

Glowing at my bridal shower
I'll go ahead and just admit that this post has almost nothing to do with Geek Chic-ery. I say almost because I really wouldn't be who and where I am today if it weren't for my amazing and talented mother. So, I am happy to support her recent efforts in becoming a marathoner!

My mother and I share a love for a lot of things: reading, fine dining, wine, sleeping, computers, board games... but exercise? Not so much. Neither one of us has really been an avid "athlete", so when she told me she was participating in the Nike Women's Marathon with Team in Training last year I was shocked and so proud! I think it may have started as motivation to lose weight for my wedding, but in the end it has given her so much more - confidence, new friends, and most of all better health. To be selfish, all I really want is for her to stick around as long as humanly possible, so anything she does to have a LONG and happy life is something I support 100%.
After completing her first race; posing with that coveted Tiffany's necklace
In October she will be participating in the NWM for the second time, but don't you assume this will be her second half-marathon. After the 2011 NWM she went on to participate in THREE other races; in Walnut Creek, Palm Springs, and the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. I was lucky enough to see her at the Palm Springs race, which was such a joy to be able to celebrate that with her.

So all of that is to say, I implore you to help me in supporting this wonderful creature, who gave me life and many of my talents. Head on over to her Team in Training Fundraising page, read it, and either throw a couple dollars her way or at least leave a nice comment. Oh, did I forget to mention Team in Training supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society? My mom, the saint that she is, also participates to raise money for this foundation in honor of a family friend of ours who lost his battle with Leukemia at only 24 years old. You are very missed, Michael.

I love you Mama!
Thanks guys!

I am so excited to announce that my Etsy shop, Geek Chic Designs, is now open for business! Right now the focus is going to be wedding-related stationary, but I'm always working on new ideas and plan on adding printable layouts for baby announcements, party invitations, and anything else that inspires me! So in the meantime, if you are looking for some cute and affordable wedding stationary, please head on over to my shop or shoot me an email with your custom idea and I will make it happen :)

I can't thank my family, friends, and WeddingBees enough for all their support - you have all been amazing!
